CAW drop-in sessions!

The Centre for Academic Writing (CAW) are launching new-style drop-in sessions for CU students during the week commencing 8 February 2010. These sessions will take place in the Study Skills Drop-in on the ground floor of the Lanchester Library on the following days and times:

Tuesday – 2-4pm – CU Harvard Reference Style advice
Wednesday – 2-4pm – Academic Style advice
Thursday – 2-4pm – CU Harvard Reference Style advice

The CU Harvard Reference Style Drop-In sessions will address students’ queries about the use of in-text citations, the List of References and any other aspect of the CU Harvard Referencing Style, as well as queries about the different strategies one can use to integrate sources into an academic argument. Students are encouraged to come to the session with a specific question relating to one of their own writing assignments.

The Academic Style Drop-In sessions will address common student writing difficulties including the use of I (first person), run-on sentences, informal language, structuring paragraphs and writing a thesis statement. Students may bring specific questions on Academic Style, but should not expect to discuss their own writing assignments with the tutor.

Please note: The drop-ins will not be individualised tutoring sessions and students may come and go at any point during the two-hour sessions.
